Jaqueline Kane usually didn't leave the Ravenclaw Common Room after hours but tonight was an expection. She had missed dinner and had grown hungry over the course of the night. Of course, Jax seemed to have been missing dinner alot this year. She couldn't stand being around so many people this year. She'd been asked many times if she was ok and she always smiled and said yes, though it wasn't true. She had less than a year before she would marry Scorpius. Needless to say, the young girl was apprihensive about it. She wasn't sure anymore what to think about the Slytherin Prince she'd been promised to. Things started out with hatred between the young, engaged pair but now where were they?
Jaqueline wasn't sure. If he truly hated her, why would he have saved her from her sister's fiance? Wouldn't he have left her there to suffer? She wasn't sure she would have offered the same rescue to him in a situation similar to the one he'd rescued her from and that troubled her. She didn't like people doing things for her, that she wouldn't do for them and she wasn''t sure she would've swallowed her pride and hatred and beat the nuts out of someone for raping him. Course, he'd probably enjoy it, she was crying.
Walking down the hallway towards the kitchens, blinded by her thoughts and confused by her feelings. She hadn't spoken to him since then, absolutly ashamed of the fact she couldn't defend herself. She avoided eye contact with him and all other confrontations. Not everyone noticed but her best friend, Megan did. She always wondered why when Megan stopped to harass Scorpius, Jaqueline kept walking and she didn't say anything to him or about him. Then again, Megan didn't know about what happened yet. If it was up to her, only her and Scorpius would know but he insisted on telling Jason and Gabriella though he agreed to protect Abagail from the news. No one else knew.
With a sigh, Jax continued trying to detangle her thoughts, walking down the dark halls in her pajamas as if she'd walked down them a million times. Her sleep pants were blue with the ravenclaw crest repeatedly covering them and she wore a white tank top. She didn't wear shoes or other 'underwear' that maybe she should've but it was more comfortable this way. The less clothes the better in Jakki's opinion.
Continuing to walk blindly down the hall, Jakki stumbled into something that felt like a wall. "Ouch!" She said, forgetting that she really wasn't supposed to be out this late but once she relaized it, her heart skipped a beat and she waited silently for a teacher to tell her she had detention or something. Her heart pounded and then she caught a scent that was even worse than a teacher. It sent her heart even further into her stomach and she felt like she could pass out. It was Scorpius she had run into with that sweet, poisonous scent he wore as cologne. A smell that made her want to turn in run but the shock of it all keep her feet grounded. Oh Merlin! Not him. she thought, waiting for a response.

Scorpius looked around the Slytherin common room, utterly bored. Byron was having a makeout session with some brunette. Again. Didn't he realize he needed to stop? He couldn't pay a lot of attention to the same girl, or else he'd develop feelings for her. Of course, the young Malfoy didn't know who the brunette was. If he did, well then he'd have something to do. Yawning, the blonde closed his eyes and tried to recall all of of the things that had happened to him recently. The important ones, not the unimportant things like his many girlfriends. His thoughts drifted off to the arranged marriage he had to a certain Ravenclaw, Jacqueline Kane. He personally thought that she had a beautiful name, but would never say that out loud. Scorpius had helped her out recently, and the truth was...he actually liked it. Kind of. He was angry at what Jakki's future brother-in-law had done to her, mainly becuase she was his fiance. Nobody knew that, or else it would ruin his reputation. It was probably the reason why he had so many flings, and was never able to maintain a serious relationship. Becuase the young Malfoy knew what who he'd be with in the end. Jakki Kane. Scorpius opened his eyes and sighed, surveying the scene around him. First years were chasing each other again, and couples were making out in various corners of the common room. Byron among them. Running his hand through his blonde hair, the young Malfoy walked out of the common room confidently, without looking back. The Slytherin decided he'd get a snack from the kitchens. He knew that he'd get caught, but who honestly cared? The blonde was a bit hungry after all. Scorpius walked through the dim-lit corridors, not even paying attention to his surroundings. All of a sudden, somebody bumped into him. "Watch where you're...." he snarled, before realizing who it was. "Jacqueline. Fancy meeting you here." The young Malfoy said, with more politeness in his voice. He looked a bit disheveled, as his tie was very loose, and his hair messed up. Scorpius had the "I just got out of bed and I still look this good" sort of look that other guys tried to imitate. {Cologne? }

Jaqueline was surprised at the change in attitude towards her as she noticed that Scorpius' first reaction was to be rude and mean but it instantly changed as he figured out who she was. Course, Jakki wasn't quite sure how he knew it was her because she didn't look at up him and she'd been walking with her head down but then again, blonde witches and wizards seemed to be rare. In fact, Jaqueline couldn't name another witch or wizard that was blonde other than her and Scorpius right off hand. Her hair may have given her away but that was not the problem, the problem was that it was Scorpius and that she no longer knew how to act around him. Not since that night.
He'd been so great that night. It was enough to change her feelings for Scorpius and it almost had. She'd almost enjoyed the rest of the summer with him, but then there were the times that she saw him being rude and such to someone and she was reminded of how he acted towards her before. Then there were the girls. Jakki liked to flirt and was considered a tease because she led guys on to believe they could get some from her but she never gave it. The guys hated it and she was now called a slut but what made her mad is that the same guys were always cheering Scorpius on about his new girl and such and Scorpius showed public affection with these people and was all over physically rude with them and she got called a slut. That was aggravating. Scorpius kiss and told and Jakki had never even kissed. Yes, Jaqueline Kane was prude.
Jax kept her head down, keeping her eyes and her face away from Scorpius. She turned her head so far aside that she couldn't see him, not even in her peripheral vision. He said her name and it sent chills down her back and made her stomach churn and he spoke after that. He first reaction was to ask if it really was fancy meeting her here but she didn't, she let the silence sit for a long period of time before speaking, choosing her words carefully. "I'd expect you to have a girl on your arm at least." She said, trying for a little resentment but she sounded more like a hurt ex than someone who disliked him. It was weird though. He was her fiance and he'd had more girlfriends than she'd had shoes in her entire lifetime. Considering they were engaged, it was weird for Jax to think about it. Didn't engagement mean loyalty? Would he be doing these things when they were married too? That was one of the reasons she hated him so much snd he made her so angry.

Scorpius knew it was Jacqueline as soon as he had looked at her. She always walked in that odd sort of fashion, something that only he would be able to notice. Of course, it's not as if he looked at Jakki. That much. Ok, maybe he did. The blonde didn't really know what to do with Jacqueline at this point.
That one night had changed his feelings for the Ravenclaw in front of him. It was tradition for the Malfoys to be engaged before they even started school, and he had every intention of following that. Even if he had to marry Jacqueline. Not that there was anything wrong with her, but she was just.....Scorpius couldn't find the right word for her.
"Nah. It's Byron's turn tonight." Scorpius said, amused. A slight smirk played on his lips. "He's making out with some random brunette in the common room." he added, telling her the information he knew she would hate. His smirk became more pronounced. "And what is someone like you doing out here?" Scorpius asked, even though she hadn't asked him a question.

Scorpius seemed to know just how to hit Jaqueline nerves but she knew how to poke back. She knew that brunette that Scorpius was talking about. Megan had already told her about Byron and Jakki knew about Scorpius' distaste for Megan. Looking up into his face with wide, innocent eyes and a matching expression, Jaqueline said, "So that is why Megan isn't answering her owl...." She made it look like she didn't realize that Scorpius and Megan hated each other but Scorpius stabbed first and she would stab back. It eased her mind to know they were heading back to what they knew. They were never going to change. Not at this rate.
Jakki could just see it, they would be married, he'd still have his girlfriends and she be expected to hold up the Malfoy image as well as the Kane family image while her husband trashed not only his name but hers as well. The thought of it made Jakki's stomach turn. She took a deep breath and looked away. She had goosebumps from being this close to him and she hadn't noticed till she shivered and looked at her arms. Her blonde hair was down around her shoulders and it moved as she shook her head and reach into her shirt, pulling out her engagement ring. She kept it on her and loosely, not on a chain around her neck or anything, because she would need to slip it on if the Malfoys appeared. She could easily make it look like she was just adjusting her bra and slide the ring on without anyone noticing. Now she pulled it out, holding the beautiful diamond ring between her fingers and looking at it. She took another deep breath and shook her head again.
"Why did your parents have to choose me?" She asked, debating between giving the ring to him and telling him she couldn't marry him and just putting the ring away and pretending that she could stand him. "There are so many more attractive females that you were clearly be more happy with. Why don't you marry one of them?" She offered the ring to him, letting him choose if they would stay engaged or not. She turned away, expecting him to take the ring from her and say 'thank Merlin!' and be off and normally that would be fine but she could feel the sorrow in her heart and she knew that as much as she hated him, she kinda....sorta....might have.....loved him. That scared her.

Scorpius's eyes narrowed at Jacqueline's words. Megan? he thought, a bit confused. The shock was visible on his face momentarily, before he gathered himself together and forced his expression to be blank and unreadable. "Ah, that good for nothing pregnant dog won't last long." Scorpius said confidentally, knowing what he was doing. He wouldn't pass up an opportunity to insult Jakki's friends, especially Megan. He didn't say 'pregnant dog' either.
The truth was, the young Malfoy wasn't sure if Byron was going to dump Megan or not. They had been together awfully long. Well, only a few days. A smirk tugged on the edges of his lips as Scorpius noticed Jacqueline reach down into her shirt. The perfect time for a comment. But nothing came to his mind that wouldn't be too hurtful. After all that happened that summer, Scorpius could at least cut her some slack.
And it was the wedding ring Jakki had gotten out. Scorpius had nothing to do with it. If he had his way, he wouldn't even be forced to marry her. "I don't know why they chose you. I mean, it couldn't have anything to do with the fact that you're beautiful or smart." he said sarcastically, his gray eyes filled with amusement. The Slytherin was actually being nice for a change, and he wondered what had gotten into him. "It's not my choice, Jacqueline." he replied, saying her full name again. Oh, how much he loved her name. Jacqueline, Jacqueline, Jacqueline. Ok, maybe he liked her a teensy bit. Scorpius pushed her hand away from him, but turned her face so she was looking at him.

Jakki didn't mind the comment about Megan. She knew that Scorpius didn't like her and Megan didn't like Scorpius. She didn't care either. Megan was her best friend. Her best friend that knew everything about her....except that she was marrying Scorpius and what happened that summer. She knew everything except for those two details. Those two very big details. She often wondered what kind of friend she was if she didn't release those details. For years, she thought about telling her about marrying Scorpius but there was always that part of her that actually wanted to marry him. Most people would spend their entire lives trying to find the person they would marry but Jaqueline had that person handed to her and they had to stay together or ruin their family names. They couldn't be caught cheating or else that could ruin them too. Course, Jakki had more loyalty than she believed the Playboy Prince to have since she never cheated on her fiance. There were no one night stands, random flings, or other people. Then again if they had a choice in marrying each other, they probably would've been loyal to eachother.
With that thought, a question followed and it popped out before she could think about it. "But how did your parents pick me?" She knew that it probably wasn't his parents that picked her but her father who picked him. He was probably thinking that this respectable family would be perfect for the daughter that looked most like his wife. He pressed the issue more on Jaqueline, making her promise that she would not be the one to call off the wedding. Course her father had been a Slytherin and was not as cunning as she was so Jaqueline knew she could try and get Scorpius to call off the wedding but after what happened that summer, she didn't want to. She wanted to marry him but what was worse, she wanted him happy, even if that meant someone else. She wanted to marry him cause she felt safe with him. She felt like he would protect her no matter what merely because she was his. Not cause he liked her or whatever, just because she was his. She 'belonged' to him.
With the thoughts of her father, Jaqueline's heart grew heavy and she relived the events that had occured, even if she did so briefly and not every detail. She relived getting the news about her father's death and though she didn't notice at the time, Scorpius had laid off on the cruel comments until she was able to handle it. Then he'd saved her from that monster that her sister was going to marry and it seemed only he could protect her at that point. Not even her big brother had been able to protect her, course he'd been caught off guard.
As the thoughts continued through her head, she didn't realize that Scorpius had turned her face towards him until it was too late. She had her arms around him and her head against his shoulder. "Thank you....." She whispered, shaking a bit from her memories. She held on for a moment before realizing what she'd done and she let go, even though it felt perfect. It felt like every curve she had on her body, his body curved to support it.
Focusing on collecting herself, she tried to bring back that hateful pride but seemed to keep getting dragged back into her thoughts about how nice Scorpius Malfoy could be. It was tugging at her heart, making her want to love him. That was a problem, though to an outsider, it might not make sense, it make perfect sense to Jakki. She couldn't love him because he would never love her.

Scorpius was obviously disappointed with Jakki's lack of reaction. He expected more of her when he had insulted her friend. He thought that the two of them were attached to the hip, but maybe she just didn't want to argue anymore. But Scorpius soon found out why later.
"I think our parents went to school together." he replied carefully. Jacqueline was bringing up a good point. How the hell were the two of them set to be married? Was it just some random meeting? Or a carefully thought out plan? Scorpius hoped it wasn't only for extending the Malfoy family, becuase that was just sick. Not that he should be complaining or anything.
After all, Scorpius was the type of guy who wanted just about every girl. It was probably because he knew he wasn't going to end up with one of them, and because he had a fiance already. Nobody needed to know that though. It could ruin his reputation forever.
Scorpius closed his eyes for a second, and then the next Jakki was all over him. A slight smirk was on his lips, but he said nothing. She obviously had some bad thoughts. He had dated people with terrible pasts, such as Megan. But she was the type of girl who wanted a slow relationship, and valued the little things. And that annoyed the Slytherin. He never did figure out why Byron was friends with her, but he had figured it out by Jakki's words. Yeah, he was in big trouble.
Scorpius was disappointed when she pulled away from him, and it showed on his face. He couldn't figure out what he was feeling, it was an emotion he had never experienced before. He couldn't bring himself to hate her, for once. "Where are you headed?" Scorpius asked finally, breaking the silence. He ran his hand through his hair and looked her straight in the eyes, as a Malfoy never showed their fear.

Jakki felt her face redden a bit as Scorpius looked into her eyes but she didn't look away. She seemed captivated by his eyes but as she came to focus she realized there was disappointment in Scorpius' face and then she looked away. It was the first time she'd seen anything remotely close to something like that in his face and it made her feel bad. "I'm sorry." She said, quietly, assuming that the disappointment was because he had to marry her.
"Well, I'd gotten hungry and was heading to the kitchens...." She said waiting for a remark along the lines of 'you should've been at dinner then huh?' and she prepared a comment on it, deciding that something along the lines of their little secret and her sudden phobia about being around a lot of people but she was afraid it would drive her into his arms again and then she'd have to see that disappointment in his eyes over marrying her. "What about you?" She asked instead, hoping to throw him from the course of making the comment she was sure she would dread.
She looked up at him, watching his hand run through his hair. She didn't realize she still had the ring in her hand, set between her thumb and forefinger. When she went to move the fingers she found herself glad the ring was there, else her hand would've found his face as its destination, to remove a strand of hair that was set kind of funny. She lifted the hand and looked at the ring, giving it a small portion of a smile before putting it back where she found it. "Woah" she said non chalantly. She waited for some sign of curiousness from him before she explained that she'd just had the urge to touch him but she chose her word carefully and said them, trying to make it sound like a passing urge, one that would never return. She made it so he'd have difficulty coming up with a thingyy response, though she opened the door very wide for such a comment.

Scorpius looked at Jacqueline, a bit confused. Sorry for what? he wanted to ask, but he knew better. She was smart, probably why she was in Ravenclaw, so she could probably come up with a number of responses. Scorpius looked at her carefully, knowing that she was thinking. About what, though? His answer came soon enough.
"Skipping dinner again?" Scorpius asked her, a smile on his lips. "Better get out of that habit if you're going to be my wife." he added, looking around to make sure no one was there. Nobody was there, so he didn't need to lower his voice. "I've been a bad boy too." Scorpius answered with a smirk on his face. He enjoyed the look on her face, and didn't even bother to add anything.
The young Malfoy watched what his fiance was doing, grinning when she put the ring back. He didn't say anything more on the matter though, thinking that he should be nice. Only for a bit, though.

Jaqueline smiled as he called her his wife. "Just as long as you don't expect me to cook for you." She joked then she added another comment to his. She knew he meant he'd skipped dinner too by saying he was a bad boy but she easily turned that around. "Better get out of some of your habits if your going to be my husband." She said. "I don't want to be anyone's step mother" She finished with a wink to let him know she was playing, though she really didn't want her husband to have kids with anyone else.
"Well if we are going to the same place, we might as well go together." She said, taking hold of his hand. She pulled out her wand and cast a disilluionment charm around them so that if anyone happen to walk by, they could not be able to make out the faces or any characteristic features of the pair. It was more for him than for her but done none the less. She smiled at him, "We have to get use to being together anyway" She said with a shrug.

Scorpius looked at her and smiled, for the first time in a while. "Ah, but step-mothers are supposed to be ugly. You would not make a good step-mother, I can guarantee that." he said to her, his smile turning into a smirk. The Slytherin was laying off on the insults, something that happened very rarely. He didn't want her to know that he might kinda like her. If she did, well, Jakki would think that Scorpius wanted to date her for the next two years or something.
"Good point." he muttered, entwining their fingers together. Scorpius was glad that there was a charm around them, because he cared about his reputation. A lot. His one goal in life was to bring honor back to the Malfoy name. Maybe that's why he was supposed to marry Jacqueline. Scorpius instinctively kissed her cheeks, his pale cheeks turning slightly red as he quickly looked away. He couldn't believe what he had done. He wasn't supposed to like Jakki, no matter what. And since when did a Malfoy blush?

Jaqueline watched Scorpius' cheeks flush slightly with color but she did not say anything. Instead, she pushed the image from her mind, deciding she would have to mull over her thoughts the next day verses trying to figure out what he was blushing about, seeing as he didn't like her. She could plant a nice insult on him at that moment but she would instead settle for a teasing comment. "Now this practice is good in all but some things will wait till marriage." She said with a smile reffering to thier sex life that has yet to exsist.
She opened her mouth to make a comment about her virginity but closed her mouth just as quickly, and looked down at the ground. It was wierd but Jaqueline was more depressed that she could not give her virginity to her husband, to Scorpius, than she was over how it was taken. She felt like she betrayed him and she hated herself for it. Her whole demenour fell and it was obvious and she attempted a joke. "I was going to say that I am saving my virginity for marriage but I don't have it..." She managed a half smile but her heaty had since fallen to the floor.

Scorpius looked at her and smiled, even though he was the one being insulted. It was true that he had been known to go pretty far with a girl. But that was only on occasion. There were many different girls, that was for sure. Not all of them were his type. ”As you wish, my lady.” Scorpius replied. He would have bowed too, but he was kinda holding hands with her. Therefore, it was impossible for him to bow without looking like a complete idiot.
He was confused, however, when her whole expression seemed to fade away. ”Don’t worry. I don’t have mine either.” Scorpius replied, frowning slightly. He didn’t like her being all sad and such. There were plenty of things he wanted to do, but he just couldn’t. The Slytherin sighed, but didn’t look away from her. If he had learned anything, it was to always keep a confident face. No matter how bad the situation was.
